The Long View
The Kennedy Center shut its main building to the public at about 4.30 on Tuesday afternoon, hours after its board voted to close it for two years. Guards stood at the doors. Staff were seen hugging through the glass. The Honors and the Mark Twain Prize move elsewhere, the REACH stays open, and everything that filled the building for the rest of the year does not.
An Associated Press review finds 25 states require or expect instruction specifically on the September 11 attacks, 13 mention it optionally, another seventeen offer guidance without a mandate, and five have no statewide policy at all. Every pupil being taught was born after it. There is no common account of what they are told.
