The cockpit voice recorder from the Miami overrun runs to more than two hours of good audio. About a minute and forty-two seconds before impact, a pilot said the aircraft was going too fast, and kept saying so. The go-around was called seconds before the end. The gap between those two moments is the investigation.
The NTSB says the 767 at Miami touched down on its nose and right main gear at 158 knots, that the left main did not touch for another eleven seconds, and that the crew then released the brakes and pushed the throttles to go-around thrust before abandoning the attempt. No reversers. No speed brakes. It overran by 1,300 feet.
Video of Sunday's overrun at Miami appears to show the Boeing 767 still airborne well down runway 30 before it touched down. Nothing about cause is established and the NTSB has a year of work ahead. But a long float is the one thing that shortens every remaining option at once.
