Ford's Model e division lost $1.06 billion before interest and taxes in the third quarter, down from $1.41 billion a year earlier, the company said on 28 October. It shipped 34,000 vehicles, 31 per cent fewer. Ford earned $2.7 billion of adjusted operating profit overall and raised the bottom of its full-year forecast.
General Motors reports third-quarter results on Tuesday 20 October. Zacks puts consensus at $3.52 a share on revenue of $48.24 billion, and North American operating profit at $3.28 billion against $2.51 billion a year ago, even though GM's U.S. sales fell 6 per cent to 670,974 in the quarter.
China exported about 919,000 passenger cars in September, up 64 per cent from a year earlier, while domestic passenger-car sales fell 27 per cent to about 1.67 million, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported on Monday. Nine-month exports reached 7.17 million. Two EU officials say last week's hybrid deal includes a 350,000-a-year quota, though no text has been published.
After two days of talks in Beijing, the EU's trade chief said China had agreed to "moderate" exports of hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars, with the prospect of cutting them by more than half over four years. China's own list of 16 outcomes mentions an "understanding" and no number.
EV sales in the United States fell 30.7 percent through September, accounting for six percent of overall sales, after the $7,500 federal tax credit expired at the end of 2025. In Europe, EVs reached 23.2 percent market share over the same period, driven by fuel prices and regulation. American buyers moved to hybrids.
