Publishing Has Been Planning for Fewer Buyers. It Should Plan for Fewer Readers.
The OECD says average reading among 15-year-olds has fallen about 28 points since 2015, roughly a year and a half of learning, with one in five now a low performer across all three subjects. Every institution that depends on people who read for pleasure has been treating its problem as competition for attention. This is a supply problem.
